In his sophomore season on the New York modified circuit (1970), Geoffrey Bodine (as he called himself in the late '90s on the NASCAR Winston Cup series) drew attention with this sharp Valiant-bodied car and immediately started winning with it. The next year he switched from using an open-face to a full-face helmet, and that is the image depicted here.
